## free-running laser

https://doi.org/10.1351/goldbook.F02521
A term applied to a pulsed @L03459@, meaning that the @L03459@ emission lasts as long as the pumping process is sufficient to sustain @L03479@ conditions. Typical pulse durations are in the $$\unicode[Times]{x3BC}\text{s}$$-$$\text{ms}$$ range, depending on the pumping source. When the operation @M03958@ of a pulsed @L03459@ is not specified as @M03958@-locked, Q-switched, or anything else, it must be considered as free-running.
