Definition:

Optical filter that excludes radiation of wavenumber lower (wavelength higher) than a certain value and passes radiation of wavenumber above (wavelength lower) than this value.
Electrical filter that blocks signal with a modulation frequency lower than a certain cut-on value and passes signals of frequency above this value.
