Measurement method of
nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy based on the
nuclear Overhauser effect to observe nuclei that are close to each other in space.
Notes: - NOESY is typically run as a homonuclear \(\ce{^{1}H}\) experiment.
- A NOESY spectrum yields through space correlations via dipolar cross-relaxation.
- For small molecules, NOE may be observed between protons that are up to \(\pu{0.4 nm}\) apart, while the upper limit for large molecules is about \(\pu{0.5 nm}\).
- NOESY also detects chemical and conformational exchange, when it is termed exchange spectroscopy (EXSY).
