X-ray absorption near edge structure

synonym: X-ray absorption near edge fine structure
acronym: XANES
https://doi.org/10.1351/goldbook.08768
Measurement method of X-ray absorption analysis in which the fine structure of the adsorption spectrum in the range \(\pu{30 eV}\) below to \(\pu{50 eV}\) above the absorption edge is used to measure parameters describing the chemical state, coordination environment, and local geometry distortion for the X-ray absorbing atom.
Notes:
  1. The method uses synchrotron radiation.
  2. The wavelength of the emitted photoelectrons is longer than the interatomic distances between the absorbing atom and its nearest neighbours.
