Amorphous glasses made from elements of groups 4, 5 and 6 of the Periodic Table that transmit
infrared radiation.
Note: AMTIRs are hard but can be brittle.
Examples: AMTIR-1, which is \(\ce{Ge33As12Se55}\), and AMTIR-3, which is \(\ce{Ge28Sb12Se60}\).
