Interface between dissimilar crystalline or amorphous solid phases that have unequal bandgap levels.
Note:
Heterojunction allows efficient dissociation of charge carriers, which is utilized, e.g., in diode lasers, heterojunction bipolar transistors and high electron mobility transistors.
