A @C01203@ in which one component (the @H02859@) forms a cavity or, in the case of a crystal, a crystal lattice containing spaces in the shape of long tunnels or channels in which molecular entities of a second chemical species (the @G02711@) are located. There is no covalent bonding between @G02711@ and host, the attraction being generally due to @V06597@. If the spaces in the host lattice are enclosed on all sides so that the @G02711@ species is 'trapped' as in a @C00769@, such compounds are known as @C01097@ or '@C00769@ compounds'.
