The passive state is characterized by a contiguous 'passivating @F02366@' of solid @C01351-1@ products separating the metallic phase from the adjacent electrolyte. @C01351-2@ in the passive state involves growth of the passivating @F02366@ and/or transfer of metal ions through the @F02366@ into the electrolyte.
