X-ray absorption near edge structure

synonym: X-ray absorption near edge fine structure
acronym: XANES
https://doi.org/10.1351/goldbook.08768
Measurement method of X-ray absorption analysis in which the fine structure of the adsorption spectrum in the range 30 eV below to 50 eV above the absorption edge is used to measure parameters describing the chemical state, coordination environment, and local geometry distortion for the X-ray absorbing atom.
Notes:
  1. The method uses synchrotron radiation.
  2. The wavelength of the emitted photoelectrons is longer than the interatomic distances between the absorbing atom and its nearest neighbours.
