  1. Polymer that bears specified chemical groups.
    Note: Examples of functions of functional polymers are catalytic activity, selective binding of particular species, capture and transport of electric charge carriers or energy, conversion of light to charge carriers and vice versa, and transport of drugs to a particular organ in which the drug is released.
  2. Polymer that has specified physical, chemical, biological, pharmacological, or other uses which depend on specific chemical groups.
